Jesus Invites Us to Come
“All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”
John 6:37 ESV
Jesus had much to say while doing ministry here on earth, and I wonder if one of his favorite words was “come.” Recently, while studying the scriptures, I sensed the invitation “to come” as a desire to draw closer to God. It is by stepping into a more intimate relationship we can receive the fullness of the great love God has for each of us.
James 4:8 is one of my favorite verses (actually, I have many favorite verses!) James' instruction to “draw near to God, and He will draw near to you” is for our good and our blessing. Do we recognize the significance of Christ’s ask “to come” as an invitation to goodness and blessing?
I invite you to take a few minutes and ponder the following invitations.
Matthew 4:19 - “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.” (NIV) - Jesus calls us into service or ministry where we can experience Him at work in the lives of others.
John 14:6 - “no one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus invites us into an eternal relationship with God.
John 21:12 - “Come and have breakfast.” Jesus invites us to feast with Him, enjoy the gifts God gives us.
Revelation 22:17 - “The Spirit and Bride say, come. And let the one who hears say, come. And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.” Jesus invites us to accept the price He paid for our sins and come into life everlasting.
Do you have a situation that is heavy on your heart today, one that you may need to accept Jesus' invitation Jesus to come and lay it before Him?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in a comment below!
Would you pray this with me?
Dear Father,
You invite us to come and draw near to You. This is where we find peace, joy, healing, and purpose. Your invitation is not only good, it is very good and is meant for eternity. Lord, is there someone reading this today who does not know about Your eternal life? I ask you to make Your voice and invitation personal. I pray for those who may not feel worthy to come into your presence. Through Christ you welcome everyone. God, would You pour out your wonderful unconditional love to each one reading these words today. In Jesus name, Amen.
If this devotion has spoken to you, I would love to hear how by leaving a comment below or emailing me tracyarntzen@gmail.com.
