Live Like it matters, Everyday

Do you ever second guess a decision? Or maybe you are like me– I tend to overthink just about every decision. My husband, on the other hand, makes quick decisions, often too quick for my comfort. But that discussion is for another day!
Attending the Speak Up Conference, hosted by “Queen Carol Kent,” had been on my to do list for 5 years. So, 9 months ago, I registered early. That step made it a priority on my calendar. A week before leaving I felt unprepared as I had not taken full advantage of all the pre-conference recommendations. A tiny bit frustrated with myself, some regret surfaced about the prep not being a higher priority. Of course, I had many reasons for that, but don't we all when we fall into the procrastination trap?
I was feeling stressed about leaving. So many other things were pulling at me, and honestly, some were pretty darn important.
Just a few days before my departure, I sat in the quiet morning and studied Psalm 90. This is a prayer of Moses I believed he penned while in the wilderness. It compares God's eternal existence to our short lives here on earth. It calls out for us to be intentional about how we spend our days. For me, that starts with what I place on my calendar. When I came to verse 12, I noticed a note in the margin which said “stay committed to write that Bible Study.”
Eight years ago, I sensed the Holy Spirit leading me to be bold, write and teach a Bible study for those whose lives have been touched by mental illness. It was clear this should be published. Well, little did I know what it takes to get something like this published. OH MY GOSH!
The note I wrote myself a few years earlier spoke loud and clear. God was reminding me of something true: His Spirit first gave me this idea, His sovereignty led me to the right people for the next steps in my writing journey, His opportunity has opened doors for me to speak to certain audiences, and His Strength will get this work across the finish line. Early that morning I knew I had to go to this conference. Why? Because our life is short and God has plans for us.
God often teaches me in the quiet of the morning, which is why this daily habit of morning prayer/ reflection is something I guard from distractions and interruptions. You may be wondering if my decision to follow through and attend the Speak Up conference was worth the other important things I had to lay aside? ABSOLUTELY. It is going to take weeks for me to process all God had in store for me there. Blessings. Friendships– some old, some new. Opportunity. And most importantly: His presence.

“Dear Lord,
Thank you for how often I sense your guidance, love and direction when through Your Holy Scriptures. I'm so overwhelmed with gratitude that I stumbled upon Psalm 90 again. Once again, I sit in marvel at how you work and just how good you are. Thank You, Jesus! Amen!”
